The Delhi Cabinet, under the leadership of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Friday approved an assistance scheme of Rs 5,000 each to auto-taxi drivers. Auto-taxi drivers are facing an economic crisis due to the second wave of Corona and the imposed lockdown in Delhi. In view of this, all the PSV badges and permit holders of para-transit vehicles will be provided financial assistance of five thousand rupees by the Government of Delhi.

Last year, more than 1.56 lakh auto-taxi drivers received financial assistance.

Last year too, more than 1.56 lakh auto-taxi drivers were given Rs 78 crore as financial assistance. The beneficiaries of the 2020 plan do not have to reapply this time. All the drivers will be verified from the local bodies and after that Rs 5000 will be transferred directly to the bank account linked to their Aadhaar card.

They will get the facility

On May 4, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the PSV badges and permit holders of para transit vehicles would be provided a lump-sum financial assistance of Rs five thousand each. Under this scheme, auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws, taxis, fatfat services, eco-friendly services, rural services and maxi cab drivers etc. will be benefited.

Past beneficiaries do not need to reapply

The beneficiaries of the 2020 plan do not have to reapply this time. All the drivers will be verified from the local bodies and after that Rs 5000 will be transferred directly to the bank account linked to their Aadhaar card. Delhi currently has more than 2.80 lakh PSV badge holders and 1.90 lakh permit holders, who are eligible to apply for the scheme.

The Delhi Transport Department has already made necessary budgetary provisions for this. As per the order of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, the validity of the documents of PSV badges, permits, driving licenses etc. was extended from time to time till March 2020 for all public service vehicles. It has recently been extended to 30 June 2021 and all license holders and PSV badge holders valid till 1 February 2020 are eligible to receive financial support. However, like the previous scheme, this benefit will be given only to the individual owners of Para Transit vehicles. Companies owned by the vehicle fleet will not be given benefits.
